Vegetable Rava Upma














  • Rava     - 2 c
  • Water     - 4 c
  • Salt     - 1 tsp
  • Mixed Veg     - 1 c
  • Onions (medium,chopped)     - 1
  • Green Chillies     - 3
  • Ginger  (finely chopped)   - 1 inch
  • Curry Leaves     - 10
  • Veg. Oil     - 3 Tbsp
  • Mustard     - 1/4 s
  • Urd dal     - 1/4 tsp
  • Chana dal     - 1/4 tsp
  • Jeera     - 1/4 tsp


  1. Heat 1 Tbsp of Oil in a Thick Pan (Kadai).
  2. Add Rava and fry on medium heat for 10 minutes.
  3. Keep stirring to avoid burning the Rava.
  4. Remove the fried rava into a bowl.
  5. Heat 2 Tbsp of Oil in the Kadai.
  6. Add Mustard. When it splutters add Jeera, Channa dal and Urd dal and fry for few minutes.
  7. Add Curry leaves and Onions. Fry till Onions turns transparent.
  8. Add chopped ginger and mixed veg along with salt and turmeric.
  9. Cover and cook vegetables for 10 minutes on medium heat.
  10. In the mean time boil water and add to the Kadai then add the fried Rava little at a time and keep stirring.
  11. Cover and cook on low heat for 5 minutes.
Serve hot  plain. or with sambhar  This can be had for breakfast or as a snack at tea time.
Tip : For tastier Upma add one more table spoon of Oil or ghee.
